Florian Ostmann is Head of AI Governance and Regulatory Innovation at The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. In this role, Florian leads the Turing’s work on the AI Standards Hub – an initiative dedicated to knowledge sharing, community building, strategic research, and international collaboration around standardisation for AI technologies.
More broadly, Florian’s work and areas of expertise include regulation and non-regulatory governance mechanisms related to AI and data as well as the use of AI to facilitate the work of regulatory bodies. Florian serves on the Royal Statistical Society’s Data Science Section Committee and is a contributor to the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. In previous roles, he worked at the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, as a consultant on autonomous vehicle policy, social impact measurement, and responsible investing, and for the Pan American Health Organization. Florian holds a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a PhD from University College London.
