Benjamin PRUD'HOMME

Benjamin Prud’homme is the Vice-President of Policy, Safety and Global Affairs at Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute.

He leads Mila’s work on AI governance and public policy, learning and literacy, and ethical and responsible AI. He is also responsible for Mila’s “AI for Good” portfolio of applied projects.

One of his main interests is AI governance, in particular multilateral forums, human rights and the inclusion of marginalized communities in the lifecycle of AI (eco)systems.

He co-edited the recent Mila–UNESCO publication Missing Links in AI Governance (2023) and was an expert for the UN’s Broadband Commission Working Group on AI Capacity Building. He co-leads the Toward Real Diversity and Gender Equality in AI Ecosystems group of the OECD’s Global Partnership on AI (GPAI).

He is a lawyer (Quebec Bar, 2013) and former advisor to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on human rights and multilateral relations. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Observatoire québécois des inégalités, and also serves as the Vice-President of Legal Aid Montreal.
